Titanium wedding bands are not actually made of very pure titanium although a few designs on the market are. Pure titanium is actually a relatively weak metal, with a tensile strength equivalent to low grade steels, although it is only half the weight of steel.

Titanium grades are divided broadly into CP1 to CP4. CP actually stands for Commercially Pure, meaning titanium purity of 98% to 99.9% titanium. The strength of titanium increases from CP1 to CP4, with increasing amounts of small impurities mixed in the pure metal.

Mens Titanium Alloy Wedding Bands

Titanium alloys are named with the percent of mix of other metals appended to its end. For example, Titanium 3Al/2.5V refers to a titanium alloy containing 3% aluminium, 2.5% vanadium, and with the rest being titanium.

Titanium 3Al/2.5V is relatively less well known among titanium alloys, since it is not the hardest of titanium alloys but is mainly used in the construction of tubular titanium products, including certain contemporary wedding band designs with the use of tubes.

Titanium 6Al/4V is the most common titanium alloy since it is what is used in the aerospace industry. It is light weight and has high tensile strength, and this is the most common alloy used in most non-pure grade mens titanium wedding bands.

Titanium 6Al/6V/2Sn is widely accepted to be the hardest titanium alloy in use. Hard core pursuers of titanium strength in their wedding bands will choose this titanium alloy for their ring. Because of it hardness, it is actually much harder to work with than other forms of titanium alloys. But this same hardness gives its greater resistance to wear and tear, the ultimate quality for non-scratch mens titanium wedding bands.
